한국에서는 미련한 사람을 곰에 비유하곤 한다. 덩치가 크고 느릿한 모습 때문에 “미련퉁이”란 말을 쓰지만 사실 곰은 매우 영리한 동물이다.

진이칸은 기꺼이 스스로를 끊임없이 ‘타자화’ 해온 작가로서 특히 이주 여성의 시각은 여지없이 이번 이주민독립예술제에서도 드러난다.

말하자면 그 미련한‘곰’을 통해 제도권에서 벗어난 내적 표현의 자유를 표현할 생각이다.

In Korea, people often compare a foolish person to a bear. Because of the animal’s bulk and unhurried gait, the word “miryeontungi” — dimwit — gets used of people, but in fact bears are very intelligent animals.

As an artist who has willingly and continuously “othered” herself, Jin ee Khan’s perspective as a migrant woman comes through unmistakably once again at this year’s Migrant Indie Art Festival.

Through the figure of that foolish “bear,” she intends to express the freedom of inner expression that breaks free from the establishment.
