줄거리 Synopsis

한국에 교환학생으로 온 한 외국인 고등학생은 언어와 문화의 장벽 속에서 고립감을 느끼며 학교생활에 쉽게 적응하지 못한다. 우연히 들른 동네 밀크티 가게에서 건네진 작은 친절은 그녀에게 일상의 위로가 되고, 그곳은 점점 특별한 공간으로 남는다. 몇 년 뒤 다시 한국을 찾은 그녀는 같은 가게를 찾아가고, 그곳에서 낯설고도 익숙한 순간과 마주한다.

A foreign high school exchange student in Korea struggles to adapt, feeling isolated by language and cultural barriers. A chance visit to a small neighborhood milk tea shop, and a simple act of kindness, become a quiet source of comfort. Years later, she returns, only to be met with a moment that feels at once distant and intimately familiar.

제작의도 Director’s Remarks

《자스민 밀크티》는 내가 10대 시절 한국에서 교환학생으로 지냈던 실제 경험에서 출발한 작품이다. 짧은 시간 동안 만난 사람도 우리의 삶에 오래도록 흔적을 남길 수 있으며, 관계가 끝난 뒤에도 그 시간은 우리의 성장과 현재를 만들어주는 소중한 기억으로 남을 수 있다고 생각했다. 또한 한국 학교에 다니고 현지 가정에서 생활했던 나의 경험을 바탕으로, 낯선 사회에 적응하는 어린 외국인 교환학생의 시선을 담아내고 싶었다. 점점 더 많은 외국인 청소년들이 한국 사회의 일부가 되어가지만, 그들이 겪는 외로움과 취약함은 쉽게 드러나지 않는다. 이 영화를 통해 그들의 경험을 조명하고, 한 사람의 삶에서 스쳐 지나가는 인연이 남기는 오래된 흔적에 대해 이야기하고자 한다.

Jasmine Milk Tea is inspired by my own experience as an exchange student in South Korea during my teenage years. I wanted to explore how people we meet for only a short time can leave a lasting mark on our lives, becoming memories that shape who we are even after the relationship has ended. Drawing from my experience attending a Korean school and living with a host family, I also wanted to portray the perspective of a young foreign exchange student trying to find their place in an unfamiliar society. As more young foreigners become part of Korean society, the loneliness and vulnerability they experience can easily go unnoticed. Through Jasmine Milk Tea, I hope to shed light on their experiences and reflect on how even brief relationships can leave a lasting impression on a person’s life.
